Guest posting for us today is Katie Burnett, Director of Les Enfants a party planning boutique that is famous for their luxury children’s party creations. With that in mind and Prince Georges 1st Birthday fast approaching we thought Katie would be the perfect person to guide us on how to throw your very own Royal inspired Birthday party….
We are all wondering how the Royal Family will mark the special occasion of Prince George’s 1st Birthday. Kate and William like most parents will probably consider throwing a birthday party for George. Often parents want to mark this special milestone in their child’s life even if at one the child may not remember much of the party itself. The photographs and happy times with close friends and family are something parents can cherish.
With a family business selling party supplies, we are sure Kate will have no shortage of ideas for George’s birthday, however we thought for those of you who wanted to celebrate the first birthday party of your little prince or princess we would give you some guidance.
Our biggest tip would be to create a theme and colour scheme that incorporates your child’s likes and interests and add a touch of home-made for a unique birthday party style.
Invitations – choose a fill in invitation, a designed one or maybe make your own using your little one’s hand or foot prints, what a personal idea!
Venue – depending on the scale of your party choose your venue with care, it is important to have a dedicated and safe area for the birthday child and his young friends, even if you have older children attending. An intimate family party at home can often a good choice for first birthday parties.
Entertainment – often at first birthday parties, there will be some other one year olds but more than likely with extended friends and family you will have a range of children of different ages. This can make choosing the entertainment tricky but you will find your local baby and toddler classes will offer party options such as Monkey Music, Diddidance, Action Kids, Hartbeeps, all of whom specialise in entertaining babies, toddlers, younger guests and parents too! Soft play is also a way to create a safe space for the birthday boy or girl and you could even bring along toys and ride-on’s to create a fun area.
Decoration – well this is the part of the party our team love and the part you can really put your personal touch on. Balloons are always a great cost effective way of decorating a space, we are all in love with the giant balloons at the moment and of course the tassel garlands. Add in your straws, plates, cups and tableware and you really have a lovely designed party.
We love this first birthday party by the amazing Kate Landers, the attention to detail, personalisation and the way she has followed through the theme and colour scheme are stunning. You may want to have a go at designing your own sweetie table.
Food – make sure you have plenty of finger food for the one year olds; Annabel Karmel is a great source for party food. Making the food fun is a great idea.
The Cake – lots of mums love to make their own and this is a fantastic idea, however if you don’t feel inclined there are lots of cake decorators to help. Hello Naomi is one of our favourite cake designers. Or how about joining in the cake smash craze that has come across to the UK, you can read more about this on our blog here
Take Home Gifts – no party would be complete without the traditional party bag but when lots of your guests are under 18 months, the usual bags filled with toys and sweets won’t work. We suggest giving all your little guests a nice book to take home, maybe a special keepsake they can treasure like Beatrix Potter, wrap with ribbon and personalise with a tag. In fact what a great theme for a first birthday party!
We hope you enjoyed our ideas and whatever theme or party Prince George has we wish him a very Happy 1st Birthday xxx
